Funny How It Works Out: Seton Hall vs. Rutgers

During my junior year of high school, my family and I spent a lot of time trying to figure out where I should go to college—and more importantly, where I could chase a career in sports media. I kept my search close to home, looking around the New York and New Jersey area. Schools like Hofstra, SUNY Oswego, and Syracuse all got a look.

But it really came down to two: Ithaca College and Seton Hall.

Coming from a Catholic high school, Seton Hall spoke to me immediately. They were also launching a new sports broadcasting program, and I had the chance to get in right at the ground floor. I was accepted, seriously considered it… and ultimately chose Ithaca. The program was more established, it allowed me to be on-air from day one, and my close friend John Vicari was already there. It felt like the right move at the time.

Fast forward a few years, and somehow I’m hosting Seton Hall Men’s Basketball games.

If you told high school me that this would be my path, I wouldn’t have believed you—mainly because I didn’t even know hosting was a path. And yet, here we are.

Hosting Seton Hall vs. Rutgers in the Battle of New Jersey made the moment even sweeter. My hosting career started in New Jersey with the Sussex County Miners, continued with the Jersey Shore Blue Claws, and has taken me up and down I-80 more times than I can count. I’ve been to just about every diner along the way—and I still miss the Hibernia Diner.

Life has a funny way of circling back. Sometimes the places you almost choose end up choosing you anyway.
